| By using resin-bonded sand coupled to reverse
engineering a mould can be produced directly, thus bypassing the
model stage. Internal cavities which would normally require a core
and core box are created as an integral part of the mould. The casting
produced would be a true prototype, which can be used directly in
the same way as the production item and might be considered a better
option to that of metal powder sintering.
Where the external shape of the prototype is relatively simple
and the internal shape relatively complex it would be more economical
to manufacture the pattern by conventional means and the core
by SLS. |
